Nub Creator
A native of Pittsburgh, PA, it didn't take Sam Leccia long to realize he enjoyed the flavor and experience of smoking a fine cigar. A cigar smoker since his late teens, his appreciation grew over time and eventually culminated in the creation of the Nub cigar.
Sam spent his early adult life in the US Navy aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Constellation (Go Navy, beat Army). Following his service, Sam worked for 7 years with Bacardi, Dewars, Bombay Sapphire, Jack Daniels and was a partner of an award winning vodka.
His introduction to cigar rolling came when he visited his first cigar factory in Honduras in the spring of 2000. Sam was blown away by the dedication, passion, and man power it takes to to create a cigar.
After a few years of knowing Jose Oliva, Sam left the liquor industry to become a sales representative for the Oliva Cigar Company. During this time Sam was studying tobacco and came up with the concept that became the Nub. Sam launched NUb Cigar on April 1st, 2008. Since then Nub has developed a worldwide following among cigar smokers.
As a passionate student of tobacco, Sam prefers to get his hands dirty when it comes to the products that bear his name. A regular at the Oliva Cigar Co. plantations and factories in Nicaragua, Sam prefers to inspect the tobacco that goes into NUb cigars, and usually spends a day during each trip rolling cigars in the NUb room along side some of the finest cigar artisans in the business . The next Nub you light might well have been rolled by Sam himself.
Sam is currently working with Ernesto Padilla to bring out the Nub Miami this summer and is putting the final touches on the Nub Maduro which will be available in early Spring, 2009.
